L'Aquila Earthquake

The L'Aquila earthquake happened recently in April 6 2009, at approximately 3 in the morning. it occurred in Abruzzo, in central Italy. Its epicenter was at L'Aquila, the capital of Abruzzo. the earthquake was rated 6.3 on the moment of scale and it gave many sufferings to the neighboring villages. The earthquake culled 308 lives, injured 1,500 ,made 40,000 people homeless.
The earthquake occurred on normal faulting on Apennine mountain belt that runs from Gulf of Taranto in the south to the southern edge of the Po Basin in the northern Italy. This faulting is related to the collision of the Eurasian and African plates and the opening of the Tyrrhenian Basin.
All the Italian mobile companies and some others aid the victims by providing them with telephone base at the homeless camps and offered free calls, messages and sim card. some companies also allowed victims to sleep in their carriages. some even place the post office at homeless camps allowing people to withdraw money. International aid was also provided, however, the prime minister rejected all offers except those from the United States of America. he added that the Italians were "proud" people and could manage this. They only wanted the United States of America to help build parts of the city or some historical buildings which had been damaged in the process.
Weeks before the earthquake took place an Italian scientist said that he could predict that an earthquake would hit Abruzzo and could even give a date Sunday March 29. Unfortunately, he was dismissed after nothing happened. Unfortunately, few regarded the warning when he was only a week late. The government should take all warnings seriously and immediately evacuated the place, it was their wishful thinking that nothing would have happened. If only they had listened, many lives would be saved. Now, the government can only help to have more homeless camps , accept the aid offers from the other countries and sincerely apologized to the people.
